Sale Sharks press in brief: five things we learned

Head coach Pat Lam and lock Chris Vui faced the media ahead of Friday's Gallagher Premiership clash with Sale Sharks at Ashton Gate - here's what we learned from this week's press session.

Shining through

Chris Vui believes the club's culture has really shone through in recent weeks, helping Bristol Bears to back-to-back victories over Saracens and Leicester Tigers.

“Our culture here at Bristol is awesome and we treat each other like family and everyone helps each other out. The culture is definitely what shines through more than anything.

“Throughout the whole season you talk about how long it is, but when you get to these last few games you wonder where the season goes."

Ice cool

Pat lam hailed the composure and calmness of his side in the closing stages of last weekend's victory over Leicester Tigers at Welford Road.

"I’m really proud of the boys, I’m really proud of everyone. To do back-to-back on Leicester Tigers for the first time is a huge achievement.

"The thing that was really pleasing was the calmness, the composure, and the leadership as the boys worked as a team to get the victory for our fans."

Top six target

Vui insists Bristol are firmly focused on breaking into the Gallagher Premiership top six with two games left to play in the season.

“That’s the confidence in our squad, with players and staff driving high standards and trying to meet the expectations of making the top six.

“It was the goal from day one and it’s still alive. We can still make it and that’s what we’re aiming for.”

Steely focus

Lam insists Bristol won't get carried away after last weekend's historic win at Welford Road.

"Everyone has been buoyant after the win, but there’s been a real steely determination to ensure that we do things well.

"There’s been a real edge and boys are keeping each other accountable – and if we do that and finish the week well, then that’s going to give us the best chance to have the ultimate celebration of a victory."

Simply the best

Lam praised the passion and support of the clubs' supporters, with another bumper corwd expected on Friday.

"Home and away, our support has been passionate, loud and unwavering, and it has certainly got us over the line in some big games.

"When I think back to the opening day of the season against Bath, to the noise of the Newcastle Falcons win at Christmas, myself, the staff and players are immensely grateful."
