Siale Piutau’s Tonga side were edged out 29-19 by Fiji at Eden Park on Saturday, despite an early try for the Bristol midfielder.
Piutau started at outside centre and opened the scoring for his side after just three minutes, before Fiji sprang into life with a long-range try from Josua Tuisova.
Tonga pulled ahead again with a rolling maul try in 20th minute, before tries from Vereniki Goneva and Semi Kunitani gave Fiji a 17-12 lead at the break.
That lead was extended when Dominiko Waqaniburotu powered over from close range, while Tonga winger Viliama Lolohea had a try disallowed after a review from the TMO.
In the 56th minute, Fijian hooker Samuel Matavesi finished off a perfectly executed move at the front of the lineout to make it 29-12.
But Tonga weren’t done, having the final say with another well-worked drive on 61 minutes.
Tonga face the All Blacks next weekend in Hamilton in their final warm-up match.
The advance price deadline for Season Tickets for 2022/23 is June 1st.
