Sister Club Programme returns

Bristol Bears Women are thrilled to announce the return of the successful Sister Club programme for the 2020/21 season.

The initiative has the aim of helping clubs local to the South West through coaching advice, developing the internal infrastructure of the club and helping those clubs to create a sustainable platform for women and girls from the local area to play rugby for the foreseeable future.

As part of the programme, Bristol Bears Women commit to growing and harness the talent within the women’s and girl’s games in the South West through various activations and support mechanisms.

Club’s will benefit from coach shadowing sessions, virtual skills drills and Q&As, player-run coaching sessions and help in curating a three-year club development plan.

The Sister Club programme includes six clubs local to the Bristol area; Chipping Sodbury RFC, Clevedon RFC, Hornets RFC, Winscombe RFC, Dings Crusaders RFC and Ashley Down Old Boys RFC.

Bristol Bears Women General Manager, Heidi Chapman-Mercer said: “We’re in a very fortunate position to have a high calibre player base as well as fantastic coaching staff and volunteers that help run the club, who can all help and assist clubs in the local area to really develop themselves through various means.

“We’re delighted to continue to our work with a number of the clubs involved as well as welcome Ashley Down Old Boys to the programme.

“As a club we want to give the knowledge and skills we have back into the community because it can help to grow, excite and inspire women’s and girls’ rugby in the local area.”
