Six Nations round-up: Sinckler stars, Sheedy inspires Wales

Kyle Sinckler was named Man of the Match as England got their Six Nations campaign up and running with a bonus-point victory over Italy at Twickenham.

The England tighthead, back in action following his two-match ban, played a starring role for Eddie Jones' side in a 41-18 win. Ben Earl and Max Malins also impressed off the bench in a six-try victory.

Sinckler said: "It was a step in the right direction, our intent was a lot better today especially up front, we probably didn't get the rewards we wanted but in terms of the intent and showing how much it means to play for our country it was a step in the right direction."

At Murrayfield, Sheedy was a second-half replacement as Wales fought back to edge 14-man Scotland 24-25 in a fascinating contest.

“It’s a very pleasing start, but I think it was evident to everyone that it wasn’t the complete performance,” said head coach Pivac.

“Alun Wyn Jones has spoken about that in the changing room and we’ll address our game in the next couple of weeks.

“It’s only round two of the tournament and we’d expect to be improving every time we take the field.

“At 17-3 down, it wasn’t going to script but the players regathered their thoughts, the leadership on the field was good, and we came away with that score before half time.

“That was vital for us going into the changing room. The players reacted very well after half time, the replacements made an impact, and it was very nice to get the result at the end.”
