Stat attack: Bristol Bears 38-51 ASM Clermont Auvergne

Magic Max, clinical Clermont and turnovers turn game. Check out the best of the match stats from Saturday's Heineken Champions Cup defeat to Clermont Auvergne at Ashton Gate.

Max power

Man of the match, Max Malins was the star of the show for the Bears, influencing an impressive attacking display from Pat Lam's side.

Malins scored his side's opening try, as well as providing assists for Ioan Lloyd and Siale Piutau on his return from international duty.

The full back made also 100 metres with ball in hand and three clean breaks in a superb all-court display.

Clinical Clermont

This was a ruthless attacking display from Clermont, who ran in seven tries to earn a bonus-point win at Ashton Gate.

The French side had less possession (46%), less territory (48%) and made less metres (420 vs 516) than the Bears, but when their opportunities arose, they made them count.

A tale of the turnovers

In his post-match interview with Channel 4, Callum Sheedy highlighted the breakdown as an area that had cost the Bears on Saturday.

It was an assessment backed up by the stats, with Clermont winning seven turnovers at the breakdown, compared to Bristol's one.

Judicael Cancoriet led the charge from the Clermont back row, with one turnover and 11 tackles.
