Stat attack: Saracens 44-23 Bristol Bears

Pat Lam hailed his side for going 'toe-to-toe' with Saracens at Allianz Park on Saturday - and there were some impressive individual displays within another strong team performance.

A Latta tackles

Joe Latta and Jordan Lay topped the Bristol Bears tackle count at Allianz Park, with 14 completed tackles apiece from the front five.

Samoan international prop, Lay, on his Gallagher Premiership debut, was on the field for 53 minutes bit played a big part in Bristol's resilient defensive effort.

Latta completed 80 minutes in the second row, also making 14 tackles and missing just one.

Gutsy.

Piers pressure

It was a hugely impressive competitive debut for the versatile Piers O'Conor, who was named Bristol Bears' man of the match on Saturday following an eye-catching display at full-back.

O'Conor made a remarkable 18 carries in the number 15 shirt at Allianz Park, counter attacking with pace and power while also mopping up the loose ball on a number of occasions.

And the carries were certainly effective, with O'Conor making a total of 101 metres with ball in hand - the second highest in the match behind his opposite number in the Saracens team, Alex Goode - and beating three defenders.

Add to this an assist for Alapati Leiua's second try on the stroke of half time, and you've got yourself a very accomplished performance from the 22-year-old.

Young gun.

Super Siale

Having missed the round one derby clash against Bath at Ashton Gate, Siale Piutau made an impressive return to the Bristol Bears midfield at Allianz Park.

The Tonga captain, who lined up in the number 12 shirt alongside Will Hurrell, made an impressive 12 carries in Saturday's physical encounter against the reigning champions. Piutau also completed seven tackles, missing just one during the 80 minutes.

Solid.
