Bristol Bears wholeheartedly support Premiership Rugby’s Rugby Against Racism campaign and we will be proud to show that commitment on Saturday at Ashton Gate.
For the start of each game in the first round of Gallagher Premiership Rugby, Premiership Rugby is proud to support the clubs and players as they show respect for black lives and racial equality. Time will be given before games to honour equality, under the banner of Rugby Against Racism.
Ahead of the round 14 clash versus Saracens and for every remaining league fixture this season, the club will form a heart shaped formation before kick-off.
Director of Rugby Pat Lam said: “Our true Bears culture is about Love which for us means sacrificing oneself for the benefit of others. Love conquers all issues and it’s a key part of everything that we do on and off the field and that’s why it is on the walls of our High-Performance Centre.
“We are honoured to represent our team and our city that is unique, diverse and multicultural. The Bristol Bears culture promotes equality for everybody, irrespective of your race, creed, socio-economic background or religion.”
Prop John Afoa added: “When the playing group and staff met to discuss this issue, the reaction was unanimous. We are united in our support for equality for all and to end racism, wherever we might find it.
“Black Lives Matter - the campaign to end oppression of minorities across the world - has resonated with the group, so it’s important that we recognise the part that we can play in creating a better future for everybody and demanding societal change.
“That’s why we want to show our love for our community and for our culture on Saturday. The 23 players that form the heart will represent the strength of feeling of every Bears player and staff member.”
