Statement: Gallagher Premiership final

Pat Lam responded to Wasps’ club statement with the national and local media this afternoon.

The Director of Rugby said: “We absolutely believe that Wasps and Exeter should be contesting this final and thoroughly deserve to. Both Lee Blackett and Rob Baxter have done unbelievable jobs and it was an awesome achievement for Exeter on Saturday as well – it was fantastic for the Premiership to see what they have done.

“We ourselves have been put in a situation where, it’s not ideal, but everything with Covid isn’t ideal. We were told we would get answer this morning and we were hopeful, and still are, that Wasps will get through. So, now we have been told we will get an answer on Wednesday.

“So, we’ll have a selection meeting this evening and start putting together a game plan just in case, and we need to start preparing as if we are going to be playing. But we will wait and see what is going to happen on Wednesday – we will be tested as a group tomorrow morning and we’ll come in and train tomorrow as well.”

Bristol Bears await confirmation of Saturday's Gallagher Premiership final later this week.
