Success For Bristol Ladies In Pre-season Fixtures

Bristol Ladies secure two wins out of two and build on their success at the Premiership 7s earlier this month.

The first game was away at Drybrook RFC against a team the Development Squad will face during their league campaign. The team delivered a high quality performance, and in turn created a slightly one sided score line.

Head Coach Roy Davies was pleased with the performance:"The team played well, and it was great to see some of the new faces from training in a competitive setting.

"Most of the chances we created resulted in a score which is a really positive, but for our next game we really need to work on our accuracy at the breakdown and increasing the depth to get more width into our attack.

"Training has been going well, so we’ve got plenty to build on for the next game."

The second fixture kicked-off at a busy Cleve RFC, where there was a great atmosphere and large audience cheering on the home side. Swansea Women were Welsh Women’s National Champions from the 14/15 season, so the home team were expecting a high standard of opposition. The first 30 minutes saw some exciting and competitive rugby, with Cat McNaney getting the scoring started for Bristol, and Elinor Snowsill adding a second before the end of the first half.

Swansea then spent a prolonged period of time camped on the Bristol 5m line, and eventually found a way through as their player darted down the blindside to score in the corner. Bristol reacted well, with a series of tries from Belcher, Roberts and Mason (2) who all showed their pace and ran brilliant lines to get their scores.

The final score was 40–5 to Bristol in a convincing, but hard fought victory.

"It was great to see the team back in action, with some obvious improvements from the previous game," added Roy Davies.

"There were some outstanding individual efforts from the girls, and great support from those that weren’t playing as well.

We’ve set down a real marker for the season and we’re ready to get out there and show the rest of the rugby world what we’ve got."
