Talking points: London Irish (a) - Gallagher Premiership

Check out they key talking points from this week's media session, as Director of Rugby, Pat Lam and lock, Chris Vui previewed the round 10 Gallagher Premiership clash with London Irish at Brentford Community Stadium (3pm KO, live on BT Sport 1HD).

'A big challenge'

Pat Lam on facing London Irish: “It’ll be very tough, they’ve (London Irish) done well. The score against Exeter didn’t reflect the performance and effort that they put in, but we’re in for a pretty tough game and we understand that.

“The good thing is that, after three Fridays in a row, and the double testing and the challenges that presents, it’s nice to have a full build-up to this game, so we can tidy up areas of our game, which we need to.

“Declan Kidney has done a great job at London Irish and they seem to have a pretty good team spirit and it’s a big challenge for us. It’ll be nice to visit their new stadium as well, so we’re looking forward to it.”

'We didn't play well'

Chris Vui on Gloucester win: “We got the win and it was obviously a messy one, but we got the job done and we’re happy with that,” he said.

“We look back at the review and we made a lot of mistakes that weren’t like us. This week, it’s been more about taking the learnings and being honest with ourselves on how we played in that game. We didn’t play the Bears way – we got the win, but we didn’t play well."

'Callum was superb'

Pat Lam on Callum Sheedy's performance versus Scotland: “I thought he was superb. I watched it all live and I could actually hear him – and that’s what Callum brings, he’s all about making the guys around him look really good.

"You could see the changes that’s why I like Callum, he can see opportunities and he had the courage to call them. He played flat to the line and brought a lot of people into the game and I thought he did really well – the only thing was his goal kicking, which was uncharacteristic because he’s an 80%+ goalkicker.”
