Tavender Reflects On Spectrum’s ‘Incredible Journey’

Spectrum programme manager Kris Tavender has been reflecting on ‘an incredible journey of development’ after another highly successful academic year for the project.

The special educational needs programme, which was shortlisted for the BREAKTHRU Award at this year’s Premiership Rugby Parliamentary Awards, has generated mass interest ahead of the 2016/17 academic year – and Tavender says it is an ‘exciting time for inclusive sport’.

He said: “This week we have celebrated the finale of seven groups across three local special schools - totalling 114 students from Woodstock School, New Fosseway School and Kingsweston School.

“It has been an incredible journey of development, small steps of meaningful progress and above all, fun.

“Following on from the recognition of being shortlisted for a national award, it is great to see so many schools resigning for the new school year and wishing to take our relationships forward - it is such an exciting time for inclusive sport in Bristol.”

The project helps people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities throughout Greater Bristol take part in sport, leisure and personal development within school settings and regular curriculum time.
