Team GB crowned HSBC Sevens World Series champions

Jasmine Joyce and Grace Crompton starred as Team GB claimed the HBSC Sevens World Series title after winning their second Fast Four tournament in Edmonton.

A week after their first triumph in Vancouver, Team GB doubled down to claim top spot in Edmonton as both Bears shone yet again on the biggest stage.

The 2021 series was shortened to just two events, both in Canada, because of the Covid-19 pandemic and a number of core nations including Fiji, New Zealand and Australia did not take part.

Joyce lit up the world stage once again in Edmonton scoring ten tries in total, including another hat-trick in the final to beat USA 22-5 and claim the Player of the Final accolade for the second week in a row.

GB’s group stage began with a comprehensive 43-0 victory over Mexico with both Crompton and Joyce bagging a brace.

The Welsh star grabbed the only try in a 7-7 draw with Canada, before adding another two to her tally in GB’s 29-19 group stage win over USA.

A 50-0 whitewash in the semi-final saw Joyce bag yet another brace with Crompton also getting over the chalk.

A second final in as many weeks awaited Team GB, and boy did Jasmine Joyce deliver. A nine-minute first half hat-trick saw off the challenge of USA with a 22-5 win in the final.
