Team news: Bristol Bears vs Worcester Warriors

Bristol Bears go in search of a third straight Gallagher Premiership victory when Worcester Warriors visit Ashton Gate on Sunday (1pm KO).

  • Bristol make five changes from Saints victory
  • Will Capon set for first Premiership start
  • Heenan, Joyce and Thiede also come into pack
  • Purdy starts in backline after signing long term deal

Director of Rugby Pat Lam makes five changes from the side that beat Northampton in round ten, as Henry Purdy and Lewis Thiede – the two try-scorers at Franklin’s Gardens – are selected to start.

Homegrown hooker Will Capon will make his first Premiership start in the front row, while Jake Heenan comes into the back row.

“We expect a huge challenge on Sunday from a quality side in Worcester. I know Solly will have them focused and ready to compete physically."

Skipper Steven Luatua (neck) misses out through injury, so Joe Joyce comes into the second row, with Chris Vui moving to blindside flanker.

Lam said: “We expect a huge challenge on Sunday from a quality side in Worcester. I know Solly will have them focused and ready to compete physically.

“We know that there are areas we need to tidy up from last weekend, but it’s another opportunity – in front of our home supporters – to put a marker down and keep the momentum going as we reach the halfway stage of the competition.”

John Afoa is included among the replacements, while Luke Hamilton and Ioan Lloyd also come into the 23-man squad.
