Team news: Bristol Bears Women vs Firwood Waterloo Women

Kim Oliver has named her first Bristol Bears Women squad of the decade as her side go in search of a victory to kickstart 2020.

  • Bern starts at tight head
  • Jefferies comes in to the engine room
  • Attwood named at fifteen
  • Reed starts first home game in seven months

Sarah Bern returns to the Bears starting line-up for the first fixture of the New Year after a spell on the sideline with injury to complete the front row alongside the explosive Simi Pam and co-captain Clara Nielson.

The majority of Bristol’s Welsh contingent in unavailable due to international commitments, which see Ebony Jefferies come into the engine room to partner Hollie Cunningham.

Rhi Parker returns to the starting fifteen at scrum-half to partner Lucie Skuse, whilst Amber Reed is named at inside centre and is due to play her first game at home in seven months since returning from injury.

Lucy Attwood comes back into the starting squad after missing the last game of 2019 through illness.

Bears supporters may also get the chance to see Wales international Manon Johnes in action in the Tyrrells Premier 15s for the first time this season if she is introduced as a replacement.

Word from the camp: Kim Oliver

“There are no easy games in this league. We’ve got to go out there and put in a good performance, we’ve got to be physical and relentless as well as stick to our systems.

“If we do all that then we can come out on top but if we don’t do that, like we haven’t a couple of games that’s when we let ourselves down a little bit, so this week we’re back in refocused and going into the game with a positive mindset.

“We have an incredible amount of talent from the young girls to the more experienced girls and it’s really important that we get that cohesion when we’re on the pitch."
