Team news: Harlequins U18 vs Bristol Bears U18s

Bristol Bears Academy U18s kick off the U18 Academy League with a trip to take on Harlequins at Surrey Sports Park on Saturday (1:45pm KO).

Academy coaches Sean Marsden and Peter Walton pick an experienced side for the competition opener, including four players with senior experience.

Half-back pairing Blake Boyland and Ioan Lloyd, centre Harry Ascherl and wing Jack Bates have all featured in either the pre-season Premiership Sevens or the Premiership Shield, with Lloyd also making two appearances in the Premiership Cup.  

Tom Jones captains the side from outside centre, with Chay Mullins and Tom Wilstead completing the back line.

Sean Ihegie, Joel Coughlin and Jay Burley make up the front row, with Harry Chase, Ben Tothill and Fergus Dick in the back-row.

Academy transition coach, Sean Marsden, said: “The guys have worked really hard in preparation for a hugely competitive U18s league, and we’re excited to get started on Saturday.

“We’ve picked an experienced outfit and there’s plenty of excitement about what this group can achieve if they play with the right mindset and attitude.”
