Team news: London Irish vs Bristol Bears 'A'

Bristol Bears ‘A’ open their Premiership Shield account versus London Irish on Monday evening evening (7.45pm KO).

  • Madigan, Hurrell and Stirzaker in exciting backline

Assistant coach Conor McPhillips takes a strong side to Hazelwood as Bristol look to kick off the Southern section competition with a victory.

Jordan Crane recovers from a back injury to make his first outing the campaign, while international duo Ian Madigan and James Lay are included in the line-up.

In the pack, Bristol include three Academy players in Sam Graham, James Dun and George Kloska.

“Our ambition in every game we play is to go out to win and we’ve picked a strong side for the visit to Hazelwood on Monday night."

McPhillips said: “Our ambition in every game we play is to go out to win and we’ve picked a strong side for the visit to Hazelwood on Monday night.

"The players in the group have trained really well and they're eager to take their opportunity and push for a spot in the Premiership squad.

"We've included two of our U18 Academy squad, Charlie Rice and Ollie Holiday, on the bench. The experience will help their growth and development and underlines the alignment between the Academy and the senior squad."

Tom Lindsay, Jordan Lay or Jake Armstrong all return from injury and international duty to be selected among the replacements.
