Tom Luke appointed Bears Women Assistant Coach

Bristol Bears Women are delighted to confirm that Tom Luke has accepted the role of Assistant Coach ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

The former Bristol, Cornish Pirates and Doncaster Knights player will be responsible for backs and attack.

An experienced coach with roots in the city, Luke previously held the Head Coach role at Thornbury RFC as well as Head of Rugby at St Bede’s Catholic College.

“Tom was a standout candidate for the role and it’s great to bring somebody of his experience and knowledge into the team,” said Head Coach Dave Ward.

“We have been very clear in what we want to achieve, and Tom’s ambitions are aligned to our own. He understands the Bears vision and is proud of what it represents for the women’s game. There’s some hard work ahead but we’re excited to get going and Tom’s arrival adds extra impetus as we prepare for the Premier 15s campaign.”

Formerly of the Bristol Academy, Luke is the first coaching appointment to Ward’s backroom team.

He added: “Joining a club like Bears Women is a fantastic opportunity and I’m looking forward to working with the squad and management.

“Dave has come in with a really clear vision of what he wants the team to achieve and the alignment with the men’s side is outstanding. As somebody who lives in the city and cares about the club, I’m relishing the challenge of helping the team achieve success, while developing the next crop of talented players.”
