Academy prop Louie Trevett scored his maiden international try, but it wasn't enough to prevent South Africa winning a thriller in Paarl.
In a thrilling conclusion to the summer series, South Africa ran out 44-41 winners despite England outscoring the hosts by seven tries to five which included a penalty try.
The hosts finished strong, with a try by fullback Joel Leotlela and a sideline conversion from Heymans levelling the scores with time running out on the clock, before Heymans landed the match-winning penalty with a minute left.
