Pat Lam admitted it was ‘two points dropped’ by the Bears in Brentford on Sunday, as London Irish fought back from 13-31 down to claim a draw in a dramatic and action-packed Gallagher Premiership clash.
The Bears Director of Rugby, whose side stormed to the bonus-point inside 38 minutes, was left to rue a lacklustre second half, but accepted that his side were one complete pass away from losing the game with the final play.
"You have to give a lot of credit to London Irish. We knew that would happen if we let them back into it,” he said.
"We feel like we've dropped two points, but they could also have easily won that game had that pass stuck at the end. We're fortunate to have three points.”
The Bears remain top of the table thanks to the three points collected at the Brentford Community Stadium – and Lam has urged his players to start relishing the favourites tag that comes with top spot.
"We've worked hard to get into this situation, and the challenge for a lot of these guys are that there are targets on their backs.
"They've got to get used to not be the underdogs like they were a few years ago. To play with a big lead, they have to be even more dogged.”
