Vacancy: First team athletic performance coach

Bristol Bears seeks a first team athletic performance coach to design, implement and evaluate athletic performance programs to optimise on-field performance.

General responsibilities

  • Develop year-round programming, aimed at improving athletic performance outcomes across all areas of training.
  • Individualize training programs and evaluate athletes through the design and performance of baseline tests to assess individual strengths and weaknesses.
  • Providing continuous feedback to athletes on their progress and training plans.
  • The post-holder will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing an integrated athletic performance programme to players and will participate in squad training sessions & matches to support the work of players and coaches.

Qualifications and experience

Essential:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology or a closely related qualification
  • Experience with strength diagnostics and force plate technology
  • Extensive experience of working within a high performance, professional sporting environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of rugby union

Desirable:

  • Master’s degree in Sports Science, Exercise Physiology or a closely related qualification
  • Extensive experience of working in a high-performance rugby environment
  • Experience with data-analysis systems such as R, Python and other statistical software

Personal qualities:

  • Thrives in a team environment and continually contributes positively to an interdisciplinary team
  • Strong, transferrable communication skills
  • Proven ability to work productively and to deadline in high-pressure environments
  • Ability to quickly adapt and respond to a fast-paced environment.
  • A discreet, professional and confidential approach
