Vacancy: First team performance analyst

Bristol Bears seeks a first team performance analyst ahead of the 2019/20 Gallagher Premiership campaign.

Job overview:

The post-holder will be working under the direction of Bristol’s Senior Performance Analyst and Director of Rugby, helping provide information to measure and monitor the performance and progression of 1st Team Bristol players to make a difference and aid performance.

The role will involve assisting the 1st team on match days, filming of training during the week and any designated projects allocated by the senior performance analyst.

Overall, becoming a vital member of the coaching staff, assisting in driving the standards of the Analysis Department forward.

The Role:

  • Filming of Training
  • Filming or Live Coding of matches, helping provide detailed feedback for coaches and players
  • Work closely with and support the Head Analyst / DoR to provide pre and post-match analysis to coaches and players.
  • Establish a seasonal database to monitor technical and tactical KPI’s for players/team throughout the season
  • Assisting in the creation and maintenance of relevant statistical outputs.
  • Assisting in the creation of Preview and Review Presentations, sitting in meetings to provide both rugby insight and technical support.
  • Management of Bears Communication App, used to share training, opposition previews, performance reviews etc.
  • All Role holders must maintain an appropriate standard of Confidentiality

The Person:


  • Passionate and Driven individual – with a can-do approach to projects and problem solving
  • Present themselves well and have the confidence to communicate / present to coaches and players
  • Creative and research minded to develop / challenge new ways to analyse and present data
  • Carry out duties and responsibilities to a high standard in a highly pressurised environment
  • Willingness and flexibility on time, travel and possible alterations to roles
  • Enthusiastic, Reliable with the ability to work well under pressure
  • Team player who understands the importance of the Bears Vision

Experience and education:

  • At least 2 years’ Experience working with a professional rugby club
  • An undergraduate degree in a Sports Science related course
  • Good in-depth knowledge and competence of using Office, Hudl and video editing software packages on an Apple Mac.
  • Experience in gathering statistical data - translating large data amounts into concise documentation
  • Familiarity with presenting analytical data – graphically and visually illustrating your concise findings.

You will be asked to complete a task and given time to present during the beginning of the interview. Details around the task will be included within the email.

We have allocated time slots on Thursday, July 18th from 1pm for the interviews.
