Ashton Gate Stadium is a unique sports and entertainment business with the core aim of providing integral support services to ensure the sustainability of Stephen Lansdown’s sporting group of companies which includes Bristol Sport, Bristol City, Bristol Bears, Bristol Flyers Basketball and each of their respective community charities.

Our Human Resources team is the central people team for the group. We are responsible for processing new joiners to the business, supporting them throughout their lifecycle and also providing support  when they are leaving the business. We are looking for someone who is passionate about delivering a great employee experience with a focus on our people and contributes positively to the Bristol Bears vision and culture. Someone who is proactive at improving our processes, implementing structures and providing strategic advice and input to support high performance. In this role you will provide an outstanding employee service by carrying out a range of administration and activities. You will follow, understand and advise on our processes and policies. 

You will have experience of working in a fast-paced HR role and will have strong administration and communication skills at all levels. A previous role in professional sport is desirable.

JOB PURPOSE

Human Resources Department

You will support staff to ensure that we get the best out of our team based at the High Performance Centre. You will focus on ensuring that we are living our values and growing our people to drive high performance and our club vision of ‘Inspiring Our Community Through Rugby Success’.

You will be responsible for creating organisational development plans to enable Bristol Bears to achieve our goals. With a deep understanding of our vision, you will develop and embed appropriate people and organisational solutions, policies and practices.

Key Responsibilities

Lead people and organisational development plans:

  • Develop a clear understanding of the structural and organisational needs of the club and deliver a people-centric plan which drives our ambitious vision
  • Coach heads of departments to identify employee learning and career aspirations and agree on effective development plans. Recommend suitable learning methods and develop an annual learning plan, supported by learning initiatives
  • Support in identifying and maximising potential and drive development through succession planning and individual development planning to meet our skills and capability needs

Provide support to the senior leadership to enhance our people management processes:

  • Embed  strong performance management culture and processes. Coach staff and managers in agreeing  appraisal objectives and recognising success
  • Ensure new and transitioning employees and volunteers receive a planned, effective and timely induction and exit
  • Facilitate quarterly HR Manager appraisal meetings
  • Bring HR expertise to diagnose the change requirements across structure, people, skills and ways of working
  • Provide specialist advice and instruction to managers on employee relations issues (i.e. disciplinary, grievance, capability, bullying and harassment) in line with club policy
  • Give accurate and appropriate advice, training and support to managers to recognise, respect and enable diversity and inclusion

Systems, processes, and staff engagement

  • Foster high levels of employee engagement, including staff participation in Staff Days and team bonding events
  • Develop and maintain all processes and administration in line with current legislation and club policies (i.e. employment contracts, starters, leavers and change processes)

Recruitment focus

  • Drive consistency in attracting, managing and developing talent to support current and future club needs 
  • Ensure that all recruitment activity is delivered in a timely and well organised way and hiring managers are fully involved in the process

Data focus

  • Use data and analytics to measure the effectiveness of tools and policies and understand the landscape for further improvement. 
  • Analysing and reporting HR information to support key business decisions.

Policies

  • Understand and anticipate the need for change, diagnose the underlying issues and build the case for change with stakeholders. 
  • Build frameworks to plan and manage the continuous process of change including dependencies, risk, potential scenarios ad options to mitigate

Essential Skills

  • CIPD Qualified
  • Relevant HR experience (generalist or specialist) gained in a complex organisation with multiple stakeholders
  • Experience of operating in a business partner model
  • Sound knowledge of employment law
  • Able to take the initiative, originate action and be responsible for the consequences of the decisions made;
  • Communicates challenges and influences a variety of stakeholders effectively.
  • Ability to present sound and well-reasoned arguments to influence
  • Adapts and works effectively with a variety of situations, individuals or groups.
  • Able to understand and appreciate different and opposing perspectives on an issue, to adapt an approach as the requirements of a situation change, and to change or easily accept changes in one’s own organisation or job requirements.
  • Strong personal effectiveness by managing own emotions in the face of pressure, set-backs or when dealing with provocative situations.
  • Demonstrate an approach to work that is characterised by commitment and motivation.
  • Able to simplify complex problems, processes or projects into component parts, explore and evaluate them systematically.

Desirable Skills

CIPD level 5

2 - 3 years of previous Human Resources experience

Experience in professional sport

Health and Safety

  • Responsible for ensuring all health and safety procedures are followed at all times, with relevant paperwork to support
  • To ensure all employees complete their trained required to do their job 
  • Report all incidents and accidents as required
  • To report any hazards detected  
  • To complete and review the risk assessments for the department
