TITLE: Senior First Team Physiotherapist
DEPARTMENT:   Medical 
REPORTS TO: Head of Medical/Director of Rugby

Bristol Bears Rugby is part of Stephen Lansdown’s sporting group of companies which includes Bristol Sport, Bristol City Football, Bristol Flyers Basketball and each of their respective community charities.

Our ambition is ‘to inspire our community through rugby success.' Our supporters regularly attend Ashton Gate Stadium to watch the team perform in Premiership and European Cup Competitions.

JOB PURPOSE

An exciting opportunity has arisen at Bristol Bears to join our experienced sports medicine team. We are looking to recruit a Senior First Team Physiotherapist with a proven track record of working with athletes in the elite rugby environment or an equivalent sport where your skills can be directly transferred.

The right candidate will be able to immediately add value to our forward-thinking and dynamic Performance department, have a strong commitment to professional development and be confident managing their own caseload of senior professional rugby players whilst also supporting more junior members of the medical team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure accurate and effective assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of injured senior players.
  • Liaise closely with the Head of Medical Services regarding assessment findings and treatment for the players, injury status and progress daily.
  • Lead and supervise detailed injury management programs & return to play schedules for players in conjunction with athletic performance and rugby coaches.
  • Organise weekly and daily rehabilitation schedules, collaborate closely with the other members of the performance and coaching team to contribute to the rehabilitation, reconditioning and training integration of injured athletes in your care.
  • Ensure timely communication with the Head of Medical Services regarding the management of all injured players in your care and all aspects of systems development.
  • Provide match day and training day Physiotherapy cover to the Senior Squad.
  • To keep abreast of current best practices, maintain CPD and take an active role in the departments CPD program with a bias towards innovations and physiotherapy systems development.
  • Assist in keeping accurate and detailed records of all injuries (training and match) including type, frequency and games missed, in accordance with the standards set by CSP and HCPC.
  • Supervise and line manage junior members of staff.
  • Contribute positively to the Bears vision and culture.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Minimum of five years’ experience working within an elite sport setting
  • Member of the CSP
  • Registered with HCPC
  • PHICIS Level 3 or equivalent qualification
  • MSc or working towards an MSc in Sports Physiotherapy (or related subject)

DESIRABLE SKILLS

  • Experience working in elite rugby union
