Bristol Bears Wheelchair Rugby team put in a valiant display in the first round of the South West Development League, losing out in the final to a strong West Country Hawks side.
The first game against Team Solent Sharks saw a 19-14 defeat but saw the team gel nicely and blow off the early season cobwebs.
After a short turnaround, a defeat to West Country Hawks - containing Invictus Games athletes and GB squad members – followed, before a hard-fought 15-14 victory over Bournemouth Lions, thanks to two tries in the closing stages.
In the final against the Hawks, a spirited Bears display saw them lose 21-5, but earn a lot of plaudits for their performances on the day.
If you would like to get involved:
Squad members: Steve Slade, Jules Allen, Vicki Ross, Matt Lawrence, Courtney Uppington, Maurice Daller, Sarah Ruffle, Lois Linter.
Coaching and technical support: Rob Camm, Marcus Ross, Kieran Jackson.
