Leading business women, Karren Brady CBE shares her lessons of successful management and working under pressure.
Six key skills for running a successful business from Karren Brady:
1. Leadership:
“Leadership should never be confused with management. Leadership is about the vision and very often you are the only person who can see it. Being a good leader is getting people to believe in what you see. It doesn’t matter what you do when you know what to do, it is how you behave when you don’t know what to do.
“As a leader your job is to deliver the goals and ambitions of all the people who rely on you.”
2. Ambition:
“Without ambition, nobody ever started anything. Ambition is that spark and fire inside of you that drives you forward.
“People are often afraid to say they are ambitious but ambition is about making the best of yourself and taking every opportunity.”
3. Determination:
“If I had to pick one thing that has been the key to my success, it would be determination, the ability to pick yourself up when you have been knocked down.
“I have never met anyone who is successful that hasn’t got a huge amount of determination.”
4. Attitude:
“I have one rule that guides my attitude in everything I do; I ask myself ‘what is the worst that can happen?’
“If you can expect the worst thing then it will help define who you are and help you progress.”
5. Direction:
“Opportunities and direction in life are just disguised as hard work.”
6. Positivity:
“True success is largely a part of hanging on when everyone else has let go.”
Recognised as one of the most entertaining and effective motivational speakers in the country, Adrian Webster is the next Big Sports Speaker guest on Friday, December 16th.
