VIDEO: Sarah Hunter Wins Player Of The Year

Bristol Ladies player and England Captain Sarah Hunter talks through the moment she was named World Rugby Player of the Year 2016.

Hunter, who earlier led England Women to a 12-10 victory over Ireland, has had an impressive 12 months.

A veteran of 83 tests and the fifth most-capped England women's player of the all-time, Hunter has been ever present for the Red Roses in 2016, scoring a try in their opening Six Nations match against Scotland as they finished runners-up to France.

A Women's Rugby World Cup winner in 2014, the No 8 will continue to be a key player for England in the remainder of their Old Mutual Wealth Series with games coming up against New Zealand and Canada.

"I still can’t quite believe it, it’s a fantastic honour," said Hunter.

"Just to get the nomination I was completely surprised and overwhelmed. To win the award, I’m truly honoured and very proud of that achievement.""Rugby is a team sport so it’s as much for them as it is for me."

Hunter also paid tribute to her team mates and coaches after winning the accolade.

"So many people have helped me get this award," she said.

"My team mates have allowed me to do my role and play the way I do. Without them behind me I would never have received this award. Rugby is a team sport so it’s as much for them as it is for me.

"Away from my team mates, so many people have allowed me to improve such as the coaches and support staff.

"S&C give me my strength and fitness programme so I am able to perform. The medical team that keep me on the pitch week in, week out.

"My friends and family have supported me through all the highs and lows over the past year. They help me through the good times and the tough times and without them I would not have won this award."
