Walking Rugby Team Take Second At Sport’s Inaugural Tournament

With the huge drive for Walking Rugby from the South-West area continuing to grow, Bristol Walking Rugby Club to Salisbury for the nation’s first competitive Walking Rugby tournament.

With teams of seven players lining up against each other, the RFU draft rules for Walking Rugby were put into full effect for the first time in a competitive way, with over 40 players participating in this inaugural gathering.

After navigating the first two rounds of the round-robin format unbeaten in matches against a Representative VII and the Salisbury Zimmers, the Bristol Walking Rugby team fell to a single-point defeat in the deciding match against the Salisbury Strollers, to finish the day as overall runners-up.

Notching up 14 tries in three games, the Bristol team - ranging from 58-72 years of age - left a lasting mark on the world of Walking Rugby through their sportsmanship, fair play and sheer character.

With the team Twickenham-bound on May 27 for the Aviva Premiership Final, the pace for our silver haired, silky skilled legends continues to ramp up.

The new Walking Rugby Satellite Club launches at Kingswood Rugby Club on Wednesday May 24, 6.30-8pm.
