Ward arrives in the West Country

Red Roses lock Abbie Ward signs for Bristol Bears Women ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

28-year-old Ward arrives in the West Country after helping Harlequins Women secure their maiden Allianz Premier 15s title last season.

The 46-cap England international enjoyed a stellar campaign in the coloured quarters, which saw her named in the 2020/21 AP15s Team of the Season after registering nine tries, 14 line-out steals, 21 turnovers and completing 155 tackles.

Bears Women Head Coach Dave Ward said: “We are delighted to add a player of Abbie’s quality to the squad ahead of the upcoming campaign. Her skillset in loose combined with her dominance at the lineout makes her fantastic addition to our forward pack.

“She has an abundance of experience having competed on the international stage with England and she knows what it takes to become a champion, which will help cultivate our winning mentality here at Bears Women.”

Abbie Ward added: “I’m excited to start a new chapter in my playing career in the West Country at Bristol Bears Women.

“There is a clear vision in place at the club, which aligns with my own ambitions and I’m determined to the help the club fulfil their vision and bring success on the field.

“I’m looking forward to getting down to work with my new teammates in pre-season.”
