‘We had to dig deep’ - Oliver

Kim Oliver praised her side’s heart and desire to keep pushing to the end of their 22-24 victory over Exeter Chiefs at Sandy Park on Saturday afternoon.

First half scores from Amber Reed, Simi Pam and Sarah Bern accompanied by a try bonus-point score was enough to see the Bears claim 5 points on the road.

’This is the culture we have worked to hard to build’

“There is always going to be thing to work on, but a 5 paint win is great. Considering we’re a game behind to come here and get 5 points, you can ’t ask for much more.

“Once we can bring all the good patches together to make longer periods play, we’ll be really exciting. That’ll come over the next couple of weeks and playing together more regularly.

“I’m really proud of the girls, we stuck at it and won ugly, which you have to do sometimes.

“You could see the girls really pulling together and working hard for one another, and the shirt. That’s the culture we have worked so hard to create, and build on over the last few years. That’s what gets you over the line in those closing moments.

“Bring players into the game late on, you’ve got to see what they’re about that was a big test. Everyone has been part of pre-season, but it’s always different when you’re out on the pitch. It was a real squad effort today.”
