‘We made it difficult for ourselves’ - Oliver

Kim Oliver believes her side ‘tried too much’ given the wet weather conditions in their bonus-point victory over Richmond on Saturday.

The Bears were made to work hard for their victory at the weekend with Daisie Mayes’ score wrapping up all five points for the hosts and the Bears head coach was full of praise for her forwards and their tenacious work rate.

“We made it difficult for ourselves against Richmond, we didn’t kick well which didn’t help us, however, our forwards were great and gave our backs a really good platform to work from, said Oliver.

“Row Marston was great today, she gives us great go forward ball alongside Sarah Bern, they compliment each other well and gives us the momentum we need to get going in games.

“There were a lot of knock-ons and scrums, we need to look after the ball and not try too much and actually keep hold of the ball, go to ground and then reset”, she continued, “we just tried to do a little too much given the conditions.

“Overall, it’s great to go into a long break on a high and come away with five points, which is what we aimed for from this game so I’m proud of the girls for that.”
