'We must play with control against Saints' - Lam

Pat Lam says the Bears will need to be wary of a ‘dangerous’ Northampton Saints when the sides meet at Ashton Gate on Tuesday night (7.45pm KO, BT Sport 1 HD).

A dominant second half display saw Lam’s side storm to a bonus point victory at Sixways on Friday night – and the Director of Rugby says the Bears will need to play with control against Saints.

'Dangerous Saints'

“I think Northampton are a dangerous side - they play some great rugby, so certainly for us it’s about having good control on the game, because if we don’t get control on the game, we saw what’s happened in spurts of our game when we’re under pressure, so that’s been the focus.

“Get your detail right, play as a team and there will certainly be opportunities that we need to take, and we certainly have to limit the opportunities that we give them, because they can attack well.

Warriors double

“It was great to do the double over Worcester. We know that history shows that Worcester have been pretty dominant over Bristol over many years, and to win there for the first time in 14 years is another milestone ticked off for our supporters particularly.

“We also know that we put ourselves under pressure, particularly in that 20 minutes before half time, so we’ve taken some good learnings out of that which hopefully we can apply this week, because we’re going to need a lot of control when you play a team as dangerous and ‘backs against the wall’ as Northampton.”
