‘We need to play in the right areas’ – Lindsay

Tom Lindsay believes Bears Women need to be smarter in their decision-making following defeat on the road to Loughborough Lightning

“If I’m being honest, I don’t think that the scoreboard reflected the game. Speaking with the coaches afterwards, we’re proud of the effort put in by the girls. There were some huge shifts put in out there and a lot of players out their bodies on the line,” said Lindsay.

“However, we probably had to do that more in the areas where we were desperately defending instead of up in their twenty-two. We played a lot of rugby in our territory, which wasn’t the game plan – we wanted to play more in their half – and that’s down to our decision making and execution.

“On the flip side, when we did have the ball in their half, we scored first time. The plan was right and worked when we executed but now it’s about how can we do that more consistently.

“Players were getting off the ground and continually putting in huge shots, but it was last resort defending when you’re camped in your twenty-two, and that is always going to take its toll and take a lot of energy out of you for the second half.

“We spoke before the game about not giving away penalties between the two ten metre lines as it will give them field position straight away and we know how good their maul can be.

“As a group we need to be a little smarter at times to know when to leave the ball. We spoke before the game about having 15 on feet, and although we won a few turnovers in the jackal, we just need to be a little smarter in our selection of when to go for the ball.”
