‘We put ourselves under pressure’ - Lam

Pat Lam expressed frustration at a lack of accuracy from his side, after Bristol Bears slipped to a 20-17 defeat at the hands of Zebre on Saturday.

Carlo Canna’s last-gasp penalty snatched victory for the Italians at Stadio Sergio Lanfranchi, and the head coach said the visitors were made to pay for their errors.

“We put ourselves under severe pressure because we couldn’t build any pressure ourselves, and that’s the frustrating thing and that’s why we ended up with the loss,” said Lam.

“We’ve changed the group up and we’re giving guys opportunities, but the beauty of having a system is that we know what is wrong and we know what we have to fix.

“We put ourselves under severe pressure because we couldn’t build any pressure ourselves, and that’s the frustrating thing and that’s why we ended up with the loss."

Pat Lam, head coach

“The main thing, as we grow as a team, is that everyone has to get their bits and pieces done and unfortunately, at that next level, if you make a mistake it has consequences.

“For us, back to training, back to working on our skills, and we’ve got three more games until we’re back to the Premiership.”

“We didn’t execute enough so we spent a lot of time in defence. Our defence has really improved and our spacing was good, but guys missed tackles. One of their trys, they made 80 metres off the back of our missed tackles.”
