‘We’re frustrated, but bonus-point showed character’- Lam

Pat Lam believes his side’s last-gasp bonus-point at Harlequins ‘showed a lot of character’ but insisted there was plenty of room for improvement for his side ahead of Friday’s West Country derby against Gloucester at Ashton Gate.

Alapati Leiua scored four minutes from time to earn a consolation point for Bristol at The Stoop, but Lam admitted his side had ‘gifted some tries again’.

“It showed a lot of character from the boys, particularly from the guys who came on did really well and executed nicely,” said the head coach.

“That extra point is crucial, so that’s a real positive and there’s lot of other positives in the game.

“This side [Harlequins] is one of the top three or four, but we’ve come here and feel like we gifted them some soft tries again but really ran them close.

“We come away from this game feeling we can compete, this side are in good form, top three, they are humming away nicely so to come here and feel like we gifted them some tries again, but really ran them close, and got a point, [is reassuring] but it doesn’t mean we are satisfied.

“We’ve got to keep working and keep believing and it will come. We’ve got a six-day turnaround to another massive game against Gloucester, who are firing as well, so we’ll get back home and get back to work.”

“There are a lot of things we could do better. But it’s going to come – we had some moments there but then we gift tries to the opposition, simple execution things.

“We’ve got to keep working and keep believing and it will come. We’ve got a six-day turnaround to another massive game against Gloucester, who are firing as well, so we’ll get back home and get back to work.”

Adult tickets start from £30 and U12s from £10 for this mouth-watering clash against the high-flying Cherry and Whites.
