Pat Lam says Bristol Bears are relishing a return to Ashton Gate for this Saturday’s Gallagher Premiership clash with Harlequins, as they look to bounce back from last weekend’s defeat to Gloucester at Kingsholm.
Lam’s side head to BS3 alongside their counterparts from Bristol Bears Women, who take on Gloucester-Hartpury in the Tyrells Premier 15s, in the second game of the annual double-header clash.
And the head coach is looking forward to another electric home atmosphere.
“We’re hugely excited to return to Ashton Gate,” he said. “It seems like a while since we played Bath on an amazing night with huge support, so everyone is looking forward to getting back home and trying to get the points versus Harlequins.
“In the Premiership, you’ve got to be winning your home games and then trying to go away and pick up as many games and as many points as you can. It’s round four, we’re back at home and looking forward to it.”
Lam also praised the ever-strengthening relationship between the club’s men’s and women’s teams ahead of Saturday’s double-header showdown and urged supporters to stay behind and show their support for Kim Oliver’s side.
“It seems like a while since we played Bath on an amazing night with huge support, so everyone is looking forward to getting back home and trying to get the points versus Harlequins."
“I’m always excited by the double-header and it will be great for people to come along and watch both games,” he said.
“Bristol Bears Women do a good job and we enjoy working alongside them. Kim (Oliver) has been here at the training ground a few times and the boys have been in to their camp to do some coaching and one on one stuff, so it’s great that we’re all on the pitch for the double-header this week and hopefully people will support both games.”
Both sides will be looking to bounce back from disappointing second-half displays last weekend, with the Women squandering a half-time lead to draw 26-26 and the men conceding 32 unanswered points to lose 35-13 at Gloucester, and Lam says his side will learn their lessons from Kingsholm.
“We’re always disappointed to lose but we always say: we never lose, we win or learn, and there’s a lot of good learning we’ve put in place this week as we continue to grow into the team we want to be.”
