Welsh Quartet join Bears Women ranks

Bristol Bears Women are delighted to announce the signing of four Welsh internationals ahead of the new Tyrrell’s Premier 15s season.

Keira Bevan, Siwan Lillicrap, Manon Johnes and Lauran Smyth have all linked up with Kim Oliver’s Bristol Bears ahead of the season opener against Saracens Women on Saturday, September 21st at Shaftesbury Park.

All four Welshwomen were involved in the most recent Six Nations campaign, which saw Wales finish third with victories over Scotland, Ireland and a draw against Italy.

Lillicrap can be deployed across the second and back-row, while Johnes will bolster the back-row options adding extra firepower and versatility to the Bears Women forward pack.

Bevan is a lively scrum-half and her arrival will see her reunite with Welsh out-half partner Elinor Snowsill, while Smyth - who can be deployed across the back three - will give Tyrell’s Premier 15s defences plenty of food for thought in the wide channels.

“With these four girls coming in we’ve added some depth as well as experience to the squad, and I’m looking forward to seeing the girls in action in a Bears shirt.”

Bristol Bears Women Head Coach, Kim Oliver

Bristol Bears Women Head Coach, Kim Oliver, said: “It’s fantastic to welcome all four girls into the squad as we head towards the start of the new season.

“They’re all internationals and have shown they can compete at the very top of the game, so I’m sure they will make an impact in the Tyrrell’s Premier 15s.

“Siwan and Manon are strong and intelligent rugby players who are great in the contact area and will provide us with good go forward ball, as well as adding to our solid defensive structure.

“Keira’s delivery and speed of ball should allow us to play our game at a high tempo and Lauren will cause defences all sorts of problems with her speed and agility.

“With these four girls coming in we’ve added some depth as well as experience to the squad, and I’m looking forward to seeing the girls in action in a Bears shirt.”

All four additions could feature in Bristol Bears Women's season opener against Saracens Women on Saturday, 21st September (12pm) at Shaftesbury Park.
