West lands in Bear Country

Bristol Bears Women can confirm the signing of versatile front rower Hannah West.

Twenty-four-year-old West arrives at Bears Women from London-based outfit Wasps FC Ladies.

The former England Under-20 can be deployed across the front row and bolsters Dave Ward’s options in the pack.

West is Ward’s fourth summer addition following the arrival of Red Roses duo Abbie Ward and Leanne Riley as well as Wales hooker Robyn Lock.

Head Coach Dave Ward said: “Hannah is a fantastic addition to our squad – she’s got many strings to her bow with the ability to play across the front row, which is a real asset to have.

“I’ll be working closely with Hannah to develop her game and take it to another level from her already high standards at the set-piece.

“We have been able to attract a player of Hannah’s calibre to the club through the programme we have built, which is testament to the hard work that has been put in by all the staff.”

Speaking on her arrival, West said: “Dave has a clear vision for the club and plan for how he can aid my development which was a big factor in me making the move to the club.

“Bristol Bears have shown their commitment to the women’s programme with the move to the world-class High Performance Centre and that excites me as a new player coming in.

“From conversations that I’ve had, the staff and players are working hard to generate a culture that makes you part of something bigger as well as bringing success on the pitch and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in with my new teammates in pre-season.”
