Programme manager Kris Tavender says the introduction of the Bristol Bears Wheelchair Rugby Club – which gets under way on Thursday, September 21st – is the ‘realisation of a long-term dream’.
In partnership with Premiership Rugby, Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby and Comic Relief, the club kicks off at Ashton Park Sports Centre (8-10pm) later this month – and Tavender is excited for the start of ‘a new journey’.
"The launch of our wheelchair rugby club really is the realisation of a long-term dream here at Bristol Rugby Community Foundation,” he said.
“We began working with Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby two years ago through city-wide schools programming and a hugely successful community pilot for adults – we’ve been developing our provision in partnership with the sports national governing body ever since."
“We are very lucky to be working with not only all the incredible specialist schools across Bristol, but also a fantastic group of adults who are challenged by physical disability in their lives.
“With our new home at Ashton Park Sports Centre our new journey, that of the Bristol Bears Wheelchair Rugby team, really begins."
