Wilson-Hardy scores as England Women book semi-final spot

Bristol Ladies wing Amy Wilson-Hardy scored as England Women secured their place in semi-finals of the 2017 Women’s Rugby World Cup as they beat the USA 47-26 in their Pool B decider.

Sarah Hunter captained the side, while Danielle Waterman, Amy Wilson-Hardy, Amber Reed, Sarah Bern and Marlie Packer all started. Poppy Cleall and Megan Jones were named among the replacements.

Going into the game both sides had won their two matches, but after a physical start from the Eagles the Red Roses sealed their place in the last four.

Emily Scarratt touched down from Katy Mclean’s superbly weighted grubber to open the scoring, then a penalty try, and two Marlie Packer scores - all from driving mauls - secured England their try bonus point after 26 minutes.

Mclean’s dart through space got England up to a 33-7 lead at the break and they continued scoring in the second half with Amy Wilson Hardy and Amy Cokayne, however the Eagles secured a late four-try bonus point with Kris Thomas' late effort.

England have now won their last 12 matches in a row in all competitions as they look to defend the trophy they won at France 2014.
