Women's end of season awards 2021/22: who won what?

Bristol Bears Women held their End of Season Awards dinner at Ashton Gate, with Alisha Butchers' outstanding campaign recognised with two awards.

CLUB PERSON OF THE SEASON

The club's longest serving player, England international Amber Reed continues to lead from the front on and off the field, serving as an outstanding example to the club's younger stars.

COMMUNITY PLAYER OF THE SEASON

Away from the pitch, Delaney Burns has inspired her community throughout the 2021/22 campaign, working closely with the Community Foundation to enhance the lives of young people across the city.

BACK OF THE SEASON

What a season from Phoebe Murray. The centre scored 12 tries in all competitions for the Bears, appearing regularly in both the league and cup. Murray, a former England U20 international, must surely be on the Red Roses' radar for higher honours.

FORWARD OF THE SEASON

Alisha Butchers has fast become a household name in women's rugby thanks to her standout performances on both the club and international stage. The back row signed her first full-time Wales contract this season and is only getting better.

MOST IMPROVED BACK

Captain of the Bears' Allianz Cup side, Lucy Burgess has enjoyed a rapid rise in 2021/22 and continues to go from strength to strength.

The live wire Bristolian number nine can look forward to another exciting season in 2022/23.

BEAR OF THE SEASON

This award recognises someone's contribution and attitude off of the field. Someone who has heart, smiles when times are tough, get's stuck into anything, and has been a positive influence. Alice Lockwood epitomises what it is to be a Bear.

COACHES' PLAYER OF THE SEASON

A World Class performer, Sarah Bern was named in World Rugby's team of the year in 2021 and went on to win another Grand Slam title with the Red Roses in the spring.

In Bears colours, Bern showcased her ability throughout and continues to be one of women's rugby's leading lights.

PLAYERS' PLAYER OF THE SEASON

A quite outstanding campaign from Alisha Butchers, who collected the evening's showpiece award after seeing off close competition from Hannah West and Amber Reed.

Butchers has impressed on both sides of the ball in 2021/22, with her long-range try against Wasps and her glorious pinpoint pass at Saracens two highlights of a sensational season from the Welsh international.
