Woolmore calls for '80-minute performance' against Saints

Jake Woolmore says the Bears must show they are an ‘80-minute side’ when Northampton Saints are the visitors to Ashton Gate in round 19 of the Gallagher Premiership on Tuesday night (7.45pm KO, BT Sport 1 HD).

Four second half tries at Sixways saw them overturn a three-point deficit to earn a bonus-point victory over Worcester Warriors – and Woolmore says the Bears must channel that momentum into Tuesday night’s clash.

Striving for improvement

“The performance on the weekend probably wasn’t our best,” he said. “We strive to be a quality team over 80 minutes, and I don’t think we quite showed that – especially in the first half.

“So, that’s our next step and our focus going into Tuesday night. We want to build on the weekend and see if we can be an 80-minute team rather than having highs and lows throughout a game.

“I think, going into Northampton, they are a good side and like to play a lot of rugby. They’ve got a sense of unpredictability about them, so I think we need to have a strong mindset, especially in defence, and we need to be on the ball for 80 minutes.

Momentum

“Hopefully we use the momentum from the win on the weekend and take that into Tuesday night and give ourselves a good shot at winning.

“Over the last two games, physicality and heart can’t be questioned from the lads, but it’s sometimes that little bit of mindset and that little bit of detail that we are just lacking.

“When we get it right, we look good and when we get it wrong, we can look quite poor, so we need to focus on that.”
