Worcester press in brief: five things we learned

Head coach Pat Lam and fly half Callum Sheedy faced the media ahead of Sunday's game against Worcester Warriors at Sixways - here's what we learned from this week's press session.

Bouncing back

Pat Lam says Bristol Bears are fully focused on bouncing back from Saturday's defeat to Northampton Saints, when they visit Sixways on Sunday afternoon.

"To score 40 but concede 45, we were absolutely disappointed with that.

"We have to move on – we wanted five and got two, but it’s now gone, it’s all about this week, it’s all about getting the five points on offer and as much as we can away from home."

On the same page

Lam also highlighted the importance of teamwork and 'being connected' ahead of this weekend's game.

"We said: there’s a lot of people meaning well, but the game is not about playing by yourself, it’s about being connected, about the way we talk and being on the same page and applying all of that emotion to getting your jobs done," said Lam.

"That was a big focus today, so it was a bit of a longer session today because we weren’t great on the weekend."

Wary of Worcester

Sheedy insisted Bristol Bears would have to be wary of the threats posed by Alan Solomons' Worcester Warriors.

“We’ve watched their games and they’re excellent,” he said. “The structures they play, the personnel they have, they’re very dangerous, so if we’ll have to be at 100%.

“They’ve got a lot of individual talent, but collectively, they’re also very strong.

"Big forwards, and then the likes of Josh Adams, Bryce Heem, Chris Pennell out wide, so there are threats all over the park."

Artificial intelligence

Sheedy said Bristol would be fully prepared for the artificial surface at Sixways, adding that the pitch would contribute to a fast-flowing game.

"We’ll prepare for the pitch - we already played Saracens on an artificial pitch, so it’s not something that massively bothers or affects us, we’ll just play our normal game.

"It’s a quicker game, and you’ve got be ready for what’s going to hit you."

One step at a time

Callum Sheedy says he won't get carried away following an impressive display in the number ten shirt last weekend, kicking six out of six to finish with a 16-point haul.

“Every week is a challenge, it’s pretty relentless, but it’s brilliant," he said. "I’m not looking too far ahead, I’m just going week by week and day by day and making sure I keep getting better.”
