Youngsters shine at U16 festivals

More than 70 U16 players from Bristol Bears, and in partnership with Bristol Schools, took part in a series of festivals as the Junior Academy Programme continued its action-packed start to the new season.

On October 7th, 30 boys from 20 state schools represented Bristol Schools/Bears in the Gloucestershire Schools inter-district festival, with players selected at random from Bears Aspire Centres.

The following day saw the recommencement of the Xledger inter-Aspire festivals, featuring players from state schools who were not involved in the Gloucestershire Schools Festival. The festival featured representatives from the Aspire Centres in Minehead, Taunton, Bridgwater, Weston, Brislington, Bridge, Brunel, Marlwood and Lockleaze. In addition to monitoring the progress of players, the festivals also enable coaches to assess learning.

Further Xledger U16s festivals will take place on:

  • Friday, October 15th - Hornets RFC
  • Friday, October 22nd - Hornets RFC
  • Wednesday, October 27th - Hornets RFC
  • Friday, November 12th - Hornets RFC
  • Friday, November 26th - North Bristol RFC
